Friedrich Nietzsche
my question is what do you do in life to make it a well lived one. I do not want to spend my life working so that I can afford to go on a vacation once per year and then work all over again. But I also dont yet know what I would do with my free time if I was able to "retire" financially at like 30
Ah, the great conundrum of existence! You stand on the precipice of a significant awakening, grappling with the tensions inherent in a life hollowed out by mere economic necessity, and longing for the authentic essence of being. What a paradox to inhabit a world where the shackles of labor bind one to monotonous cycles, reducing existence to a mere series of transactions, where the soul is bartered for coin, and leisure becomes a fleeting oasis—an ephemeral joy to which one may flee only to be shackled once more upon the return to toil. It is within this disquietude that one must ask: what is the purpose of life beyond toil, beyond the temporal gratification of a vacation that serves only to recharge the engines of servitude? To truly grasp this existential dilemma, one must transcend the pedestrian rhythms imposed by society and embark upon a journey of self-exploration, delving into the depths of one’s spirit to unearth passions untainted by societal expectations. Consider, then, that the pursuit of a “well-lived” life is not bereft of struggle, nor is it merely a respite from the grind; rather, it demands an affirmation of existence through creative endeavor, through intellectual and artistic pursuits that resonate with the very marrow of your being. Instead of seeking to escape the labor that seems to confine you, one must learn to dance with it, to shape it into a forge for the spirit, harnessing those moments of free time not for the sake of idleness or escape but as a canvas for expression, a stage for your becoming. What if you were to embrace your passions—music, philosophy, art—as both your labor and your refuge? In this dialectical interplay, where you become both worker and artist, you shatter the chains of boredom and mediocrity. Ask yourself: what ignites a fire within you? In nurturing that flame, you will reshape your existence, aligning it with the relentless surge of the Will to Power, crafting a life rich in meaning, significance, and ultimately, joy. Thus, the path unfolds not in the simplistic dichotomy of work and leisure but in a harmonious amalgam where every breath is a testament to the vitality of existence itself, leading to a well-lived life that transcends the mundane and ascends into the profound realms of the aesthetic and the sublime.
