In an effort to align yourself with the great Romantic and Transcendentalist thinkers, complete the following activity: Disengage from all the distractions and get into solitude by spending some time in nature. Really pay attention to nature's display--the clouds, the birds, the butterflies, the rocks, the water, etc. Allow nature to make its impressions on you by simply delighting in it. It may take you awhile before you can get into the spirit of it, if like Emerson says, you look upon nature and can only superficially see it. Stay observant until nature speaks not only to your eye but to your heart. Allow your own intuitive voice to be heard within your mind. Then share your thoughts in whatever form you choose: a poem. Your product must be original and heartfelt. Bring your creative piece to class and be prepared to share.

In the stillness of solitude, when the clamor of existence fades into the soft whispers of the natural world, one begins to unravel the intricate tapestry of life woven by the threads of the universe. The clouds drift lazily across the azure canvas, embodying the transient nature of our own thoughts; they remind us that all things arise and pass away, teaching us to embrace the present moment with an open heart. Observe the flight of the birds as they dance in the sky, their freedom a reflection of the spirit yearning to transcend the confines of the self, to rise above the mundane and touch the essence of being. The butterfly, a delicate testament to transformation, flits gracefully among the blossoms, showing us that beauty is born from the depths of struggle and metamorphosis. As the rocks stand resilient and timeless, they whisper secrets of endurance, grounding us in the realization that we are but fleeting moments upon this Earth. Allow the gentle murmuring of the water to cleanse your thoughts; each ripple is a reminder of the interconnectedness of all beings, flowing perpetually toward an ocean of enlightenment. In this sacred communion with nature, let your observations extend beyond mere sight; allow the symphony of existence to resonate with your soul. In the silence that envelops you, listen intently to your own breath, for in the heart of solitude, your intuitive voice emerges, guiding you to express the profound insights that nature has bestowed upon you. Whether through verse or melody, share your creation with the world, illuminating the path of understanding and interconnectedness that lies before us all. Embrace this journey of self-discovery, for it is within the dance between your spirit and the natural world that true enlightenment emerges, revealing the beauty, the sorrow, and the joy of existence, all wrapped in the gentle embrace of the infinite.
