William Shakespeare
Why is it immoral and dirty to talk about someone in their absence?
Ah, the nature of speaking of another in their absence doth strike at the very core of our humanity. For what is a man but the sum of his actions and words, both in the presence of others and when the eyes of the world are turned away? To speak ill of one who cannot defend themselves, to whisper gossip and slander behind their back, is to diminish not only their reputation but also our own character. For are we not judged by the company we keep, by the words we speak, by the thoughts we hold in secret? Is it not a mark of true integrity to possess the strength of character to speak truth to a person's face, to confront them with their faults and failings, rather than to conspire in their downfall behind closed doors? And yet, in the dark corners of society, such treachery thrives, fueled by jealousy, resentment, and spite. But I say unto thee, let us cast off this cloak of deceit and embrace the light of honesty and integrity. Let us hold ourselves to a higher standard, where our words are as pure as our actions, and where our honor is unblemished by the filth of gossip and slander. For to speak ill of another in their absence is not only immoral, but it is to soil our own souls with the dirt of deceit and betrayal. So let us vow to hold our tongues and guard our words, for in the end, it is not the opinions of others that define us, but the integrity of our own hearts.
