My dear friends, the difference between being a lesson and being a role model is quite profound, indeed. To be a lesson is to provide insight and wisdom through one's experiences or actions, serving as a cautionary tale or a source of instruction for others to learn from. It is a passive role, one in which the individual is not actively seeking to inspire or influence others, but rather unintentionally or indirectly does so through their own missteps or successes. On the other hand, to be a role model is to intentionally and consciously embody virtues and values that others can look up to and aspire towards. It is a proactive role, one in which the individual is mindful of their actions and strives to set a positive example for others to follow. While being a lesson can be beneficial in highlighting the consequences of certain behaviors, being a role model carries a greater responsibility and impact, as it has the power to inspire and motivate others to strive for excellence and virtue. In essence, being a lesson teaches through mistakes, while being a role model inspires through virtuous actions. Both have their own value and significance, but ultimately, it is the role model who has the ability to uplift and guide others towards a better path. So, my dear friends, let us strive to not only learn from the lessons of others, but also to be the role models that can lead by example and inspire greatness in those around us.
