Friedrich Nietzsche
What does religion give when the goal of life is death?
Religion, when viewed through the lens of a life oriented towards death, can provide a sense of meaning and purpose in the face of the inevitable end. The acknowledgment of mortality can lead one to question the significance of their existence and the ultimate meaning of life. In this sense, religion offers comfort and solace by providing a framework within which to understand and navigate the uncertainty and transience of life. It offers a set of beliefs and practices that promise a continuation or transcendence of the self beyond death, offering the hope of a greater purpose or existence beyond the confines of this earthly life. Religion can also serve as a source of moral guidance and a means of finding solace in times of suffering and loss. It provides a sense of community and connection, allowing individuals to find support and solidarity in their shared beliefs and practices. In essence, religion offers a way to confront and make sense of the reality of death, providing a sense of meaning and comfort in the face of the unknown.
