Ah, verily doth Freud bring forth a poignant reflection on the nature of civilization and its discontents. For he doth proclaim that the sense of guilt, that weighty burden which doth haunt the soul of man, is the root of our woes in the development of society. As we strive for progress and enlightenment, we doth sacrifice our innocence and simplicity, thus incurring a heftier sense of guilt upon our conscience. And in this trade-off for civilization, we doth find ourselves bereft of the pure joy and contentment that once did gladden our hearts. The price we pay for our advancement in society is indeed a heavy toll upon our happiness, as the shadows of guilt grow longer and darker with each step we take towards progress.
