Who are you

Who are you? This question has puzzled seekers of truth for centuries. Are you merely a collection of thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations? Are you solely identified by your name, your job, your relationships? Or is there something deeper, something more profound within you that defies easy definition? As I sit here, enveloped in the silence of meditation, I contemplate the essence of existence. I see that you are not your name, for a name is merely a label, a symbol used to identify you in the world. It is a transient concept, easily changed or discarded. Similarly, you are not your job or your social roles. These are merely roles that you take on to fulfill specific obligations and responsibilities in society. They are but temporary costumes, worn and taken off, as you navigate through the intricate dance of life. Beyond these transient identities, I perceive a deeper truth. Who you are is an amalgamation of your past experiences, your beliefs, your desires, and your aversions. With each passing moment, you are shaped and influenced by the thoughts and emotions that arise within you. Yet even these are not the essence of your being. They, too, are impermanent, ever-shifting like the waves on the surface of the ocean. To truly know who you are requires delving beneath the surface, into the realm of pure awareness. It is here, in the stillness of your being, that you can discover the eternal essence that transcends the ever-changing nature of the external world. This essence is not bound by time or space. It is not confined to the limitations of the physical form. It is the unchanging core of your being, the witness to your thoughts, emotions, and sensations. As you cultivate this awareness, you begin to see that you are not separate from the world around you. You are interconnected with all of existence, intricately woven into the fabric of the cosmos. Your individuality, your ego, is but an illusion. It is a construct that veils the truth of your interconnectedness, leading to suffering and attachment. To truly understand who you are, you must relinquish identification with the transient, transient aspects of existence. You must go beyond the egoic mind, beyond the relentless stream of thoughts and emotions, and tap into the vast stillness within you. In this stillness, you will discover the eternal essence that is the source of all life. So, who are you? You are not a finite entity confined within the boundaries of your physical body. You are not the sum of your achievements, your possessions, or your relationships. You are a drop in the boundless ocean of existence, intimately connected to the ebb and flow of life. You are a manifestation of the divine, an expression of universal consciousness. Embrace this truth. Let go of the illusions that bind you to suffering, and awaken to the limitless potential that lies within you. Remember, the journey to self-discovery is not an external quest, but an internal pilgrimage. Look within, and you will find the answer to the timeless question: Who are you?
