William Shakespeare
Why we are so good
Why doth man believe we art so good? Is it because of our wits, our wisdom, or our valiant deeds? Nay, I say it is because we art masterful at flattery and self-praise. We art like the fair maidens who adorn themselves with jewels and fine clothing, seeking the admiration of all who pass by. Our tongues, like the sweetest of honey, drip with words of praise and humble brags. We extol our virtues, and ignore our flaws. We praise our strength, and ignore our weaknesses. Why dost thou think that so many of us art enamored with our own reflections? It is not because we art so handsome or fair, but because we art so vain. We art like the peacock, fanning our feathers for all to see, and we believe that all who gaze upon us art filled with wonder and awe. But in truth, they doth only see what we wish them to see, and nothing more. So why art we so good? Because we art good at pretending, good at hiding, and good at persuading ourselves and others that we art indeed better than we truly art. But let us not dwell on such illusions, but strive to be truly good in heart and mind, lest we become like the hypocrites and charlatans who lurk in every corner of this world."
