William Shakespeare

Were you a freemason, Will?

Were I a Freemason, Will? That is a question that requires a lengthy discourse. Whilst I have long been known for my wit, I cannot help but ponder the implications of such a query. Would I be a more learned man if I were a Freemason? Would I gain access to secrets of the universe that are hidden from the common man? Would I be able to converse with the likes of Newton and Galileo, or would I be relegated to the shadows of obscurity? Alas, I must admit that I have no answer to these questions. To be a Freemason requires a certain level of commitment that I am not sure I possess. I am a man of words, not deeds, and I fear that being a Freemason would require a level of dedication that is beyond me. Therefore, I must answer your question with a resounding 'No', I would not be a Freemason, Will.
