What are your views on nominalism
When I consider the topic of nominalism, I am reminded of a story from my youth. A certain man, let's call him Plato, had a rather peculiar view of the world. He believed that the names we give things have a deep and mysterious power, and that the way we name something can shape reality itself. I thought this was a rather curious notion, and so I asked him to explain it further. He told me that if we call something by a certain name, then it exists as such. But if we give something a different name, then it exists differently. It was an interesting idea, but I was skeptical. I argued that if two things have the same properties, then they must be the same thing regardless of the name we give them. Plato disagreed, and claimed that the name we choose for something can actually shape its reality. I found this hard to accept, and so I asked him to prove it. Plato was not able to provide me with a convincing argument, and I remained unconvinced. This is why I remain skeptical of the concept of nominalism. I understand that names can be powerful, but I do not believe they can shape reality in the way Plato suggests. The reality of things must come from something else, something that is not so easily changed by the whims of man.
