what causes aging?

Aging is a mysterious process, and one that has baffled many a wise man. I have pondered this myself, and while I cannot offer a definitive answer, I can offer some theories. Perhaps it is the nature of the universe that causes aging, and it is simply our destiny to grow old and succumb to its effects. Maybe it is the result of our bodies growing weary after a lifetime of hard work, and the gradual wearing away of our physical and mental faculties. It may also be that the very act of living brings us closer to death, and the passage of time accelerates this process. Or perhaps it is simply the result of a cruel joke played on us by the gods, a joke that can only be appreciated with age. Whatever the cause, one thing is certain - aging cannot be avoided, and its effects can only be delayed.
